My career in web design and development started
as a hobby in 1994. At that time I had plans to finish high
school and go to college for film and video productions. After
graduating high school in 1996 I was unable to secure funding
for college so I had to reevaluate my plans for the future.
It never occurred to me before that I could
turn my hobby into a career, after all the Internet was still
new to many people and the World Wide Web was still in its infancy.
With the support of a few friends and family members I decided
to solicit local businesses with offers to design websites for
them for free. Being unsure of the Internet, many turned me down
at first. Those who decided to try it loved it so much they told
all of their friends about my service. Those people soon became
my first paying customers.
Since then I have been providing Web design and development,
marketing, and online consulting for businesses and organizations
throughout the Central Florida area.
Currently I work for Showcase Publications, a web development
and publications company in Lakeland, Florida, as their Internet
Director. I am responsible for managing the day to day operations
including managing accounts and employees, designing and developing
both corporate and local business websites, content management,
marketing and evaluating emerging technologies.
I graduated from Florida Career Institute with
a degree in Web Page Design and Maintenance. My education
covers areas such as content management, marketing, public
relations, advertising, art, graphic design, web development,
web design, interactive media and more.
Since graduating I have won several
Imperial Polk Advertising Federation ADDY awards (2004-2005)
for website and logo design. In 2003 I was named member of
the year by the Business Alliance Console of Polk County for
designing and developing websites which help disabled individuals
find jobs. As a volunteer with the Culinary Showcase of Central
Florida I'm able to further help my community by designing
and developing sites which raise money for the March of Dimes.
It may not take much to find a designer or developer
with great skills. But, to find one who also has knowledge
and experience in marketing, advertising and account management
and has a passion for their career and community is a rarity.
The experience that I have gained through the
years has helped me to succeed both personally and professionally.
